Aşk-ı Memnu, written by Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil in 1900, is one of the most significant works of Turkish literature. In 2008, it was adapted into a television series. The series revolves around a young woman named Bihter, who marries Adnan Bey, an older man with two children from a previous marriage. However, she later becomes involved in a forbidden love affair with Behlül, her sister's former lover and Adnan Bey's nephew. Bihter's character is filled with inner conflicts, largely rooted in her emotional state and psychological vulnerabilities. Alongside the theme of love, the story delves into heavy topics such as loneliness, suicide, and personal downfall.
Psychoanalysis, developed by Freud, is a therapeutic approach aimed at uncovering an individual's unconscious thoughts and emotions to address the roots of psychological issues. It serves as a powerful tool to understand how past experiences influence psychopathology.
